Roles Exercises

What Social Roles Do You Have?

It is useful to make a list of the roles that you hold in your life.

These may include some of the following common roles:

Spouse, child, parent, sibling, worker, friend, profession, hobbyist, voluntary worker, older person.

Personal Role List

List the roles that you have

Try to group them into similar types of roles

Try to list those that are the most important in your life

Being in a Role

Choose two important and powerful roles that you have.

Reflect on how different you are when you are in one role from when you are in the other.

How does occupying this role or that change your behaviour and the behaviour of others.

Being Roleless

Try to think of any time that you act outside of any role.  Is this possible?  Are you ever truly yourself, or do roles always intervene?

A scientific explanation of  societal devaluation  of groups & individuals.

How this happens and how it might be changed.
