Because so many 'relationships' within the service world are tenuous and prone to sudden termination, people using the service system will often test (even to the point of destruction) the willingness of staff to continue to care for them. This may result in behaviour almost certain to alienate the carer completely, with the service user needing to test the relationship to its limits.
