List of Fundamental SRV TextsThe list below is arranged in reverse chronological order, and coincidentally, this is probably the best way to approach the subject, starting with David G Race's 'Social Role Valorization- The English Experience'. This is applicable for people from any country; only the introductory chapters are specifically about the development of Normalization and SRV in Britain, the majority of the book is made up of a clear and concise summary of the basics of Social Role Valorization. The conference monograph 'A Quarter Century of Normalization and Social Role Valorization: Evolution and Impact' edited by Robert J Flynn and Raymond A Lemay includes a large number of short top medium length considerations of the subject and is a good follow on to Race's book. Hilary Brown and Helen Smith's book 'Normalisation for the Nineties (Since renamed Normalisation- A Reader) has a good selection of both critical and supportive chapter written by various experts in the subject. Once the above have been browsed, you may be ready to consider reading the original Monographs by Wolfensberger. In my experience, people find it easier to approach SRV first through the writings of others before considering Wolfensberger's original works. For completeness, it is worth reading several chapters of 'The Principle of
Normalization in Human Services' by Wolf Wolfensberger, which gives
excellent historical and supportive background.
