SOCIAL ROLE VALORIZATION (VALUES-BASED) TRAINING RETURNS TO CONNECTICUT

The Connecticut Council on Developmental Disabilities and the Social Role Valorization (SRV) Implementation Project, Worcester, Massachusetts, are pleased to announce the return of SRV training to Connecticut during 2004. Participants will learn about vulnerability and social devaluation, examine service delivery actions and policies, challenge personal beliefs and assumptions, renew personal commitments and learn positive service delivery strategies. The CT Council will be sponsoring the following training events:

Tuesday, March 30, 2004: "Overview of Social Devaluation and the Power of Socially Valued Roles"
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuition: $15 per person
Registration Deadline: March 15, 2004

Monday, May 3 through Thursday, May 6, 2004: "Introduction to SRV."
Participants will learn about social role valorization in the context of real services with real people and craft a positive vision for their own service delivery. Participants will learn how to enable people who are socially devalued to attain culturally valued roles and enjoy a typical life. Participants are required to attend all 4 days.
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily
Tuition: $98 total per person
Registration Deadline: April 19, 2004

Tuesday, June 22, 2004: "Overview of the Implementation of Social Role Valorization Principles Specifically Within A School Context."
This training is geared specifically to educators. Continuing Education Units (CEU) will be made available.
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Tuition: $15 per person
Registration Deadline: June 7, 2004

Monday, September 20 through Thursday, September 23, 2004: "Introduction to SRV."
Participants will learn about social role valorization in the context of real services with real people and craft a positive vision for their own service delivery. Participants will learn how to enable people who are socially devalued to attain culturally valued roles and enjoy a typical life. Participants are required to attend all 4 days.
Time: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily
Tuition: $98 total per person
Registration Deadline: September 7, 2004

Location: All training will be held at the Institute of Technical and Business Development, Central Connecticut State University, 185 Main Street, New Britain. Directions will be provided to registrants.

Tuition: Tuition includes material, parking, refreshments and lunch. Tuition is not refundable. There are no group discounts. Scholarships are not being offered. Tuition will be used for future SRV training in 2005. Make checks payable to CT Council on Developmental Disabilities.

Registration: Advanced registration required. Registration will not be accepted at the door. Participants in the March 30th or June 22nd one-day sessions will be given priority for participation in the May or September four-day sessions.
