Valued adult lives are marked by personal autonomy- people make there own decisions and are responsible for the consequences, positive and negative, of their actions.

People who are cast into devalued groups often suffer Loss of Control, that is the withdrawal of many aspects of personal autonomy.

People who fall into the clutches of organized service systems often lose some or all of the following:

Control of their finances

Control of their ability to go where they want to when they want to

Control of who they associate with

Control of their reproductive abilities

Control of their own personhood

Control of their own destiny.
